 I went out this evening to check out the venue and race course for the
Sundown Showdown Sprint Triathlon on Saturday, June 2 at McNear's Beach in
China Camp.

I hope you'll be there as a volunteer from 4:30 -7:30 PM, and stay for the
(free, natch) BBQ that goes until 8:30.

It was a gorgeous evening to enjoy the soft light on the Bay, and
the cooling breeze. Mike B, the volunteer coordinator, showed me around the
course, which should be fast and scenic. The race will start at 5 PM, with
the first finisher (out of 400+) expected just 47 minutes later, after
swimming .25 miles, biking 9 miles, and running 3.1 miles! Other finishers
may take a little longer....

Our group of volunteers will be managing the run course, which will have 7-8
posts. Two volunteers will direct runners at intersections, one/two will
keep runners and cars (slowed by speed bumps) separate, and four will staff
an aid station at the run turnaround (this post has a really nice Bay view).

All necessary equipment (t-shirts, flags, water, energy drinks and snacks,
tables, traffic cones) will be provided, and there should be no (or very
little) stuff hauling.

Race volunteers always get lots of positive vibes, and I am always amazed by
the variety of racers and their...approaches...to the sport. Great
people-watching.
