The American Heart Association is endorsing Hands-Only CPR (no rescue
    breathing).

I'd be interested to hear opinions from anyone with relevant medical
    training; good, bad, indifferent?

    Thanks,

I used to teach CPR for the Heart & Stroke Foundation (Canada); they were
always trying to make CPR simpler (Their standards were the same as the AHA
afaik). The idea was that the simpler it is to do, the easier it is for
more people to learn. Personally I like the idea of more people knowing
what to do if someone goes into cardiac arrest. Early access to Defib and
medical care are still important, but chest compressions while waiting for
    help are better than nothing.

It also gives those people who are worried about communicable diseases one
less thing to worry about since most people probably don't carry face masks.

Combined chest compressions and ventilation is still better, but a lot
of people (most people?) just would not do it. People die because
potential helper are hesitant to help. Pure chest compression is just
better than doing nothing. The chest compression itself also results
in some air being moved into the chest.

Profesional First Responders and medical staff are not affected by this
change. EMTs and Paramedics will still be doing ventilations and
compressions. Improperly done ventilations can be harmful so for
non-professionals this makes alot of sense.
