baarbd Announces Launch of Bay Area Adventure Racing Website

baarbd (Bay Area Adventure Race Babes & Dudes) offers a new web portal with forums, advertising, and speaking engagements to athletes and businesses in the Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- June 12, 2006 -- baarbd is proud to announce the launch of their new Adventure Racing website, www.baarbd.org. The site is a comprehensive adventure racing and cross-training resource complete with a community forum and marketing portal. Topic-based forums provide an organized way for athletes to communicate and collaborate with each other, while the portal format categorizes advertisements and resources for easy navigation and quick links to specialized websites to locate the information, products and services they are looking for.

Members can post to and browse the forums to find training partners, meet teammates, sell gear, and keep abreast of the latest adventure racing information and news. Race directors and businesses have a convenient way to reach a wide and varied community of athletes. To encourage athletes to try adventure racing, baarbd also offers free speaking engagements by experienced adventure racers to local teams and clubs to introduce them to adventure racing and grow the community.

The site is a centralized place to facilitate communication and spread knowledge throughout the entire sports community in the Bay Area. Athletes, racers, race-directors, and sports-related vendors of products and services can all contribute to the community which will, in turn, attract more interest to the sport. The ultimate outcome will be a larger, more connected, and vibrant adventure racing community in which racers have a wide variety of events to choose from and race directors and vendors have a diverse customer base.

About baarbd:
baarbd is the brainchild of Jen Klafin, an experienced adventure racer and recent transplant to the Bay Area. She realized that there was no consistent means for athletes interested in AR to break into the sport, and came up with the idea for a website that would coordinate disparate resources into one place to serve the Bay Area sports community.

Galen Pewtherer is the other half of the team. An experienced trail-runner and road racer, he was looking to break into Adventure Racing but was dissatisfied with the resources available. When Jen mentioned her idea for the site he jumped on board. They came up with a name in frenzied brainstorming session, and he started coding the site the next day.
